SWP Calculator

A Systematic Withdrawal Plan is the mirror image of a SIP: instead of putting money in every month, you take a fixed amount out while the rest stays invested. It is how many retired people convert a corpus into a monthly income. The question that matters is whether the money outlives you, so this calculator tells you plainly if and when it runs out.

Money being drawn on is usually held more conservatively, so this is normally lower than a long-term equity assumption.

Balance left after 25 years

₹81,70,088

₹81.70 L

You start with
₹50,00,000
Total withdrawn
₹90,00,000
Withdrawals last
25 years
Balance at the end
₹81,70,088

The corpus lasts the full 25 years and still has ₹81,70,088 left. Remember that a flat withdrawal buys less every year — you will most likely need to raise it with inflation, which shortens the runway.

What this calculator assumes

  • The remaining balance earns the annual return you enter, compounded monthly, and the withdrawal is taken at the end of each month.
  • The withdrawal amount stays flat. In real life you would need to raise it every year to keep pace with inflation.
  • Capital gains tax on each withdrawal is not deducted, and neither is any exit load.

The rate you enter here is an assumption you have chosen, not a return we offer or expect — real returns vary year to year and can be negative. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

Questions people ask us about this

What is a safe withdrawal rate?

There is no guaranteed figure. Drawing more each year than the corpus earns will exhaust it — the only question is how quickly. Run this calculator at a return two or three percentage points below your optimistic case and see whether the plan still survives the full period.

Is an SWP taxed?

Each withdrawal is a redemption, so the gain portion of it is taxable as a capital gain. The rate depends on the type of fund and how long those units were held. Only the gain is taxed, not the whole withdrawal.

A number is not a plan

This tool does arithmetic. It does not know your income, your other commitments, how you would react to a bad year, or what tax you pay. Send us the figure you arrived at and we will tell you honestly whether the plan behind it holds up.
